I Will Absorb This World is a collection of two sound constructions by Steven L. Anderson, a Los Angeles-based artist concerned with the power of nature and the nature of power.
"Chime Zone with Molly Roth" was originally created in 2006 for the Fairy Ring Happening for Peace, a multi-dimensional exercise in creating a psychic resistance to the Global War on Terror. In 2008, "Chime Zone" was repurposed for an installation named The Dignity of Living Beings. Inspired by a Swiss government report regarding a "moral consideration of plants for their own sake," "Chime Zone" created a comfortable zone for contemplation of the vegetable kingdom from its own point of view, and featured a sound collage of a woman voicing soothing compliments to the pleasant tones of wind chimes.
"Matter Into Spirit" (2010), a site-specific audio installation at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House, was the result of an investigation into the historical, cultural, natural, and spiritual forces that act upon the Olive Hill area of Hollywood. Bells and gongs ring out as a man’s voice leads the listener to visualize herself becoming a full-blooming flower.
